BJA NTTAC provides no-cost training and technical assistance (TTA) on a wide-variety of criminal justice topics to improve the knowledge and skills of criminal justice professionals. We do this by assessing a state, local, or tribal agency’s request for TTA services and then matching that request for TTA services to the best-fit provider to address those needs. Below are the steps a requesting agency should take to request TTA service from BJA NTTAC:
Step 1: Identify your agency’s need.
Determine the issue your agency or community is facing.
Step 2: Submit a TTA request application.
Once a justice agency has identified the issue or need to be addressed, any individual within that agency may submit a TTA request to BJA NTTAC on its behalf. To submit a TTA request through BJA NTTAC, complete our online application form.
In order to complete the online application form, you must have a BJA NTTAC account. If you do not have an account, you will be redirected to create a user account in three easy steps. Once an account is created and the application for TTA services is submitted, BJA NTTAC sends an e-mail notification to the address provided in the application to confirm we have received your application.
Please note, it is important to consider the timing of submitting your application. Requesting agencies should submit applications for TTA services a minimum of four months prior to the desired training or event date.*
Step 3: Organization’s authorizing official submits a letter indicating support for the TTA service being requested.
To complete your application to request TTA services from BJA NTTAC, an authorizing official within your organization must provide us with a letter of support for the request. This official letter of support can be submitted electronically via e-mail to the BJA NTTAC inbox at email@example.com. The letter indicates acknowledgement of the TTA request, confirms the need for TTA services, and demonstrates support for pursuing and implementing TTA services. The authorizing individual does not need to be the primary point of contact for BJA NTTAC.
An application is not considered complete until it includes both the online application form and the authorizing official letter of support.
Step 4: A BJA NTTAC staff member contacts the designated point of contact.
After reviewing the application, a BJA NTTAC staff member will contact the requesting agency’s designated point of contact to schedule a call to conduct an assessment. The purpose of this assessment is to gather additional information about the request.
Step 5: BJA NTTAC evaluates the request for assistance.
The complete application package is reviewed and evaluated by BJA NTTAC and BJA staff, and then the decision is communicated to the agency requesting TTA. Below are the two possible decisions BJA NTTAC will make:
- Request Approved: BJA NTTAC notifies the agency requesting TTA that their request for services has been approved. BJA NTTAC then identifies a best-fit provider to fulfill the TTA request, and coordinates with the TTA provider and requesting agency to develop a TTA delivery and implementation plan.
- Request Not Approved: BJA NTTAC notifies the agency requesting TTA that their request for services has not been approved and provides resources that may be helpful in addressing the identified need. In some cases, BJA NTTAC will refer the request to another organization that may be able to fulfill the agency’s need.
There are no limits to the number of applications for TTA an organization can submit to BJA NTTAC. Each application is reviewed independently and considered on its merits.
*The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) requires preapproval for all conferences, meetings, and trainings. All applications must be submitted a minimum of four months prior to the event date or desired training dates to allow sufficient time for approval. If there is an urgent need because of a crisis or other special circumstance, please contact BJA NTTAC to discuss.
